Trying to find shop to install 4.10 gears
I have been calling/looking around the Kansas City, Missouri area trying to find someone that is EXPERIENCED with installing/setting up rear-end gears. I got my 4.10:1 Ford Racing gears today (along with a Motive Force installation kit complete with bearings/seals/shims and all fluids needed).
The ONLY people that I've found that say they have done this kind of job is the Ford Dealers --- and they want $500+ to do the job. I did find a local shop that would do the work for approximately $275, but NOBODY in the shop has actually done this job --- my car would be the first (no thanks!).
I really thought that $300 would be enough to budget for this job. What do I do? Where do I go?

That's a BIG part of the reason WHY I'm looking to find a shop that has someone EXPERIENCED in installing the gears --- properly setting bearing preload and gear backlash.

Bottom line --- 5 hours of labor at roughly $100 per hour = $500. That seems a bit excessive (to me) for this job.
But, that is what the local Ford dealers want. If that is what it takes to get the job done RIGHT, then I guess I'll "bite the bullet" and pay the price.
Still hoping someone will come up with a better suggestion on where to go in the Kansas City area --- I can wait a few (several) days to get this done!!!

Most shops go by the 'book' and if it says 5 hours, then $500 is going to be about average anywhere you go. ($100/hr seems to be the average around here too). You might be able to find a shop that knows they can do it in less than the '5 hours' and/or charges less than the average rate and come out less expensive than that, but then that is where the word 'average' comes from
