New Edge Owner!
Hey Guys,
Long time Fox owner (10 years).
I just picked up a really rough 00 GT for dirt cheap. I mean cheap!
It has what I believe a collapsed lifter. I got to hear the engine run, and it got itself on the trailer. It's definitely an upper end noise judging by the sound and frequency. Passenger side rear head.
I've worked on a lot of cars, built the engine myself in my 86.
I almost want to just get another long block and swap it since I have a lot of other work to do to the front end, but if changing the lifters(if that's the case) in the car is do able, I'd be all for it. Can you do it without pulling the timing cover or no dice there?
Thanks!

Welcome to the modular Mustang world. It won't be the lifters because the modular engines dont have them. Check out the Tech articles and how to's. Great stuff in there to get aquainted with the breed. With your experience you should be able to get this pony into top shape. Good luck. Looking forward to watching your progress.

You can get a set of those heads in good shape, cams and all, usually for $200 or less, so if nothing else, just swap the heads. If you're handy, then it should just be the cost of gaskets (maybe bolts? Not sure of they're TTY or can be reused).
If it's more than that, any 2v 4.6L should be a relatively easy swap. If it's a 2000 with original engine, then it's a Windsor 4.6L, which isn't as common as the Romeo, but a Romeo swap isn't a big deal either. The Romeo 4.6L 2v was used in the Crown Vic through 2011. Lots of 2007/8's on the used market. Bolt on the Mustang accessories and such, and anything that doesn't fit from your Windsor, get it from a 2001-2004 Mustang.
