Default Newer motor question?

Hi Guys,

I have a 1996 GT with 190,000 miles on it and its getting tired. I was going to just do the PI swap but I met a guy who has a short block out of 2003 GT with 90,000 miles on it and he said I could have it for $350. He took it out to replaced it with a crate motor because he installed a kenne bell SC and knew that it was only a matter of time before the original would give way. It says it ran perfect and there are no problems with it. My question is if I should buy some new main bearings and rod bearings and throw them in there while I have the short block out of the car? It's as easy as and pulling the old bearings putting lots of assembly lube on them and re-tourqing them correct? Thanks for your time guys

It's way more than just replacing them. You'd have to polish your crank and a few more things. But those motors last a while, if you where to replace the main bearings i would just do a complete over haul since it would be apart already.

I agree with 302, go ahead and save yourself the hassle later down the road. Do it right now while the engine is out and also gives you peace of mind.

Unless ur building a whole motor just drop it in as is, don't screw with bearings.
