Default 98 GT Oil Pressure drops

Haven't posted here in a very long time. Sorry guys.

So I noticed that when I am driving my car, when I'm in 4th gear and pulling off the accelerator, that my oil pressure gauge bounces all over the place. When at idle its perfectly fine.

I also noticed that in park, if I rev it to 5500 rpm, the gauge starts to back off. Is this normal? Could it be the sender thats going out? Am I starting to see engine wear issues?

Supposedly this engine only has 40k on it. Its from a 2002 Crown vic...so I dunno if that is causing any problems...

Help wmburns...your our only hope...

The gauge in the dash is a dummy gauge. It doesn't do a thing. I'd buy an aftermarket oil pressure gauge and let the one in the dash do it's thing and not worry about it.

I don't notice any weird performance, but am worried that something internal might be going....

Let me reword what I said previously as I feel it was a little confusing. I believe that your stock oil pressure sensor is going bad; they are quite prone to failure. Ford dropped the ball with the instrument cluster on these cars in my opinion, as the oil pressure is not a switch and merely a replacement for a low oil pressure light. It says everything is normal above 6psi and you have nothing below if it is below 6psi. When the switch for the gauge begins to fail it could act as yours is.

If you are truly worried about it buy yourself a decent electric oil pressure gauge from American Muscle or someplace like that, heck, even the Sunpro stuff they sell at autozone would be an upgrade.

If you have ramps or a jack/jack stands and some very basic hand tools you can install it in an hour tops, taking your time of course.

The gauge and or sender is bad, the stock oil pressure gauge is a dummy gauge and stays in one location. It only drops if the motor drops below 8psi of oil pressure, and if that was happening it would be at idle not on the gas. Normal oil pressure on an aftermarket gauge should be a warm idle of 30-40psi, then on the gas itll move up to 80-95psi.

Wow, What a wealth. I do have jacks and ramps but no real place to do much work at this point. I will look into a different gauge but don't you have to tap for it?

Not sure about the 2vs but my 4v had an extra port below the factory sender port, u can also use the factory port or use a t connections ad run both.
