Mark VIII, to GT block swap ?
Okay, Here's my story. Ive been planing a Mark VIII DOHC engine swap in my 2000 GT convertible. A couple of months ago I picked up a MK8 engine from a local junk yard for $500. I was told it ran perfect and only had 58k miles. Well like an idiot, I just today pulled the oil pan and found a main bearing spun. Im well past the 30 day warranty period the junk yard allowes. Plus it's my fault for not checking the motor sooner.
Anyway, my question is this: Since I have the complete mark VIII engine with a bad block, could I simply swap all the DOHC parts (heads, intake, timing etc) to my GT block? With the mark VIII engine, I have all the parts needed to do a SOHC to DOHC swap. However, how well does this combo work together? what would my compression ratio be?
If possible, I would rather do this then buy another engine, or rebuild this one. Im already way over budget and far too invested to stick with my SOHC.
Thanks!
