Default Mach 460 components

Hi, I am new to the forum I have just recently acquired a 2001 mustang gt convertible and would like to do the swap to the mach 460 sound system. I was wondering what all do I need to do the complete swap and how is the difficulty level. I am new to the cars but not new to mustangs my first car is a 1971 mach 1 which has been put on the back burner for now. So that this car can get done I'll try to post pics in a little bit.

The 460 is nothing special, junk really, you are better off with aftermarket. You'll need mach 460 head unit, amplifiers, wiring, and speakers. The wiring might already be on your car. Considering you are new to cars, I think that if you can figure out what you need to do the swap, then you can probably do the swap.

That is what I was gonna say , I got the Mach 460 system , as soon as I'm done spending all my allowance on my truck build , then the sound system in the car is getting a major re-up !!!

Unless you can find all the component for the complete 460 system real cheap (like free) I would just put an aftermarket unit in and rerun speaker wire to aftermarket speakers this will be alot cheaper and better radio/speakers
Crutchfield.com has some pretty good units cheap

+1^ The head unit alone is the price of a nice aftermarket setup.

Ok thanks for the help I think I might just do that and moncherou I'm not new to cars just newer cars. Before this one the newest vehicle I owned was 1990 f-150, I'm used to older cars with carbs and one camshaft. My sister owns a 96 mustang gt convertible. And the most work that I've done on that is new smoked headlights and replace the serpentine belt.

i think its subjective. most people wont be able to tell the difference in a mach460 and some expensive Polk or Bose set up when they have flowmasters humming at 2K rpms on the interstate.

If he already had the mach460 setup, I would agree with this. But the question is between putting a mach460 in it or some aftermarket unit. My mach460 is good enough for me most of the time, but with the conditions given above, I too would go with an aftermarket setup.

As an aside, I came to my current mustang from older carbed cars/trucks, and while I have had my share of learning, it really isn't that much different. But the electrical system vis-a-vis the audio system is still the same as it was back in the 70s, 80s, and 90s on the cars I worked on then. Make sure you have matched components whether high-end or not and you should be good to go.

I also have an 01 vert. I got rid of the factory stereo and amps. It's the best thing to do. The speakers still work well with decent amps. I have a Kenwood receiver, Alpine M500 powering a JL box in the trunk. JL has an awesome 8" power box that does great and takes up very little space. I have another another amp pushing 75w per to the other speakers. It sounds great and I highly recommend this way.
