You're getting mixed opinions because half the guys on this thread, including American Muscle, don't know you're asking about new style Mustang wheels with a different offset on your older car.

Personally, I'd be more concerned about how the S197 offset on the FRONT wheels affects the steering/suspension geometry.

S197 on the fronts just tuck in due to the wrong offset. They don't have a negative impact on the ability of the dampers to control rebound at all. Steering might rub at full lock, depending on tire size.

Rears/tires in question will touch the inner edge and won't spin without rubbing.
Rears are the greater issue with this set up.

I've had SN197 wheels on the front and they only rubbed when I did I full turn like a U turn. Might've been because the tire profile was 55 lol. But the rear is the only part that worries me, since they are fat tires and might rub against the quad shock or fender well.

My comment was about the front steering/suspension geometry, not fit.

And it was wrong - which is why I posted my comment. On a daily driven street car, there will be no noticable change in steering or movement of the front suspension geometry due to the change in offset.

Offset has no effect on scrub radius? Really?

Sonic, you providing info if the wheel has extreme positive wheel offset. Which unless the op has a liking for wheel/tires sticking out past the fender, he wont come close to positive offset. even with one inch spacers, he still have negative wheel offset and close to the sn95 offset provided wheels from AM.

Surprising, the sn95's and s197's share the same offset on the 17x9 wheels. But the lip size is different, im assuming its for brake caliper clearance. Op, I appolagize, the front wheels will fit the same BUT the rears will need a spacer so the tires wont rub the wheel wells.

First of all, I asked if offset affects front suspension/steering geometry. Both you and Lil Roush were wrong, it does. I did not ask how much, I asked if it does.

Second, just because an illustration shows two extremes for clarity doesn't invalidate the effect of smaller changes in offset. The change may be smaller and its effects on steering, handling and suspension smaller, but the effects are still their.

It appears AM's SN197 17" Bullitts are identical to their SN95 Bullitts with respect to offset. Note that Ford Racing S19717" X 8" Bullitts have a 45mm offset. AM's S197 17"X 8" Bullitts are 30mm. This tells me AM isn't bothering to build and sell an S197 17" X 8" wheel with the correct offset.
