Default 96 gt speedo

I just put 410's in my 96. I bought the drive gear(6) tooth and 20 tooth speedo gear from americanmuscle. After removing my tail shaft case I noticed the drive gear I bought from AM wont fit. The inner diameter is too small and it has a big notch to slide over the gear lock. The gear that came out of the car is a 8 tooth green. Instead of being held in by and pop up gear lock , it has a c clip. I called up AM and all the guy told me was that I need a 6 tooth drive gear with a 20 tooth speedo gear. I tried to explain to him the gear doesn't fit on my tail shaft but he didn't understand that I guess. I went back on the site and realized that the gear is for a cobra t45. My question is what drive do I need to get that will fit my trans. The transmission is a t45 non cobra spec.

This is the drive gear i bought.

Any help would be appreciated.

You bought the gear for a T-5 transmission. Easy mistake because most people don't realize that the T-5 was used in the V6 mustang into the 4.6L era. You need a T45. And FYI, there was no Cobra spec T45, they are all the same, GT and Cobra.

Edit:
They are claiming that it will fit, but they are dead wrong, the T45 uses a much larger output shaft than the T5. Here is someone that had the same issue years ago. http://forums.corral.net/forums/gt-s...ar-t-45-a.html

97mustanggton18s,

I'm sorry about the confusion on which drive gear should be used on your 96 GT. Unfortunately, the 6tooth won't fit and we don't carry any ratios for the GT t-45 and 4.10 gears. The best we can do is put a 7tooth drive gear in from a 96-98 Cobra and use a 21tooth gear. This will give you the correct ratio for 3.73 gears, just not 4.10's.

Another option would be using the Ford Racing Speedo Recalibrator tool. Although it's more expensive, it's the best option to have. This tool will get your speedo right on!

When you get a chance, shoot me a PM with your First/Last name and shipping address. I'll look up your order and setup a return for the 6 tooth gear ASAP! Also, let me know if there's anything else I can help with.
