Don't rely on stock gauges to troubleshoot your engine. They are smart-idiot lights.
10w 30 every 3k miles for the last 60k miles.

I don't know what time frame you are talking about but if you jump in, fire it up and rev it up to 5 grand, that isn't good for your motor. You gotta let everything get up to temp before you start revving it.

As an aside, 3K oil changes are probably wasting your money, owners manual calls for changes at 5k.
The revving never gets up above 2000 or so rpm until the motor is properly warmed up . Even on the coldest days I never encountered any rough revving or idling with this motor until now.

As for the oil change, I'm an old-schooler trained by even crustier old-schoolers to change my oil every 3k...it's engrained into my soul, unfortunately.

That is fine for that motor so I can't say that's necessarily the reason.... although dropping to a 5W-30 would be worth a shot. Slightly lower viscosity when cold would circulate faster at startup. At temp you still have the same protection.

I agree your oil probably isn't the problem but why don't you use 5-20. My 04 runs 5-20 and i assume all 99-04 GT's would run the same.

I guess 3K is better than waiting to long!
