Default Cobra R vs. GT Wheel-well size

While browsing around for wheel specs and fitments, I came across some specs for the 2000 Cobra R. Apparently they run 18x9.5" wheels on all four corners. If you go to a major website such as AM or Tire rack and search for wheels based on vehicle fitment, it never shows 18x9.5 as an option for GT models. But if you search for the Cobra R, you get a couple results in that size.

So that brings me to the question, is there a difference between the Cobra R's wheel-well, or even suspension geometry versus the GT and other models. Or are these sites just listing 18x9 as the maximum size for liability issues, or just going by factory specs for the Mustang?

By the way, wheel specs for original '00 Cobra R's are as follows:
6.12" Backspacing
20mm Offset
Browsing for wheels with the same specs results in many Konig wheels (e.g. Konig Lightning), and others, with almost similar specs @ 6.23-25 backspace and 25 and under in offset.
