Shift control solenoid

Invest in a repair manual for the transmission not the car, get one specifically for your transmission before you start taking it apart. Automatic trannys aren't rocket science but it can be easy for a novice mechanic to misplace something. Like he said good luck.

I agree on getting a manual for your ride. It is the second purchase I make, after gas, when I buy a car. Pays for itself in the first oil change.
Anyway, the factory service manual has a pretty good & detailed tear own of the transmission. But for this job, you don’t have to dive too deep. Once you take the pan off, the shift solenoid is right there. Just unbolt it and bolt on the new one. I’m pretty sure there are two shift solenoids, btw. So make sure you know which one you are replacing before starting the job. The service manual can give you those answers. Stay away from the cheap manuals like Chiltons and Haynes. They are more akin to cliffs-notes then a real manual. Good luck...
