Default oil problem, too much oil

I changed the oil in my car for the first time yesterday. I've only had the car for 2 weeks. I know these engines take 6 quarts. 99 GT 4.6 Windsor. I had a F150 with the same motor except it was a Romeo engine, and it took 6 quarts. and that got it a little over half between MIN and MAX. So I put my car on jack stands drain the oil until nothing was coming out. Jacked the left side of the car up more so that more oil could get out of the oil pan. Only got 4 quarts of oil out of it. I don't know when the last time the PO changed the oil. Changed the filter, and all that. and to begin with I put 5 1/2 quarts in to see what that would read on the dipstick and it was overfull! I waited overnight to check it this morning and its the same. A little over the max mark! Why? Only 5 1/2 quarts put it over max.

Any help would be awesome! I don't want to drive my car much with that much oil in it, or I guess thats in it, unless the dipstick is lying but I doubt it.

Mustangs take about 5 quarts not six. The truck motors have different oil pans on them. Just drain a little out and call it good and top it off to the proper level.

if im not mistaken, there was a dipstick change, recall or something where 6 quarts was being used because of the pickup would start sucking air in hard cornering. its been a few years since I read about this so don't pinch me too hard. the main thing I remembered was to use 6 quarts

Yeah thats what I've always heard, 6 quart weather the 4.6 was in a truck or car. but either way it was passed the max mark. I drained about a quart out and got it in the x area.
