Default 03 GT Drumming Noise Coming from Engine Bay

It's hard to describe the sound - low, rapid beating/groaning almost like what you hear when the emergency brake is on and the car is moving on a slope. However, it happens anytime and randomly. I'm not aware of any performance issues.

The car is completely stock with about 76k miles.

Not that it's your fault, but the description isn't much to go off of. It sounds like something you gotta be there for. The only advice I can offer is take it to Ford (if it's a reputable dealer with a service department that you trust) just to see what they tell you.

76k miles is pretty low for anything major, but I've seen weirder things happen. Good luck.

Thanks. Maybe I will have it inspected at my local shop. I only visit the dealer to buy parts.

Yeah man, like I said, whoever you trust. Post what they say, please. I'd like to know.

Ok. It may be related to the ABS system. Yesterday, I heard it twice and the second time my foot was on the brake pedal. Not sure about the first time.

That's still not a lot to go on. Maybe if you knew for sure that it only happened when you hit the brakes. I know that ABS can sound like a low pitched, rapid drumming sound, but only when you've really stood on them.

Try some hard braking when it's safe to do so, and see if the noise that the ABS makes is the same sound you're hearing.

Finally got around to looking at the car today for a suspected clutch pedal issue and noticed the brake booster is leaking. I'm thinking that could have caused a problem for the ABS. After it's fixed, I'll post the result.

Never got the hydraulic booster fixed and still have the engine noise. Found this on the Tube. It's the same noise I have.

I had that problem with a different car, not my Mustang, and it ended up being the motor mounts needing replaced. Maybe something like that?

Thanks, Xo. That's interesting. Something to consider. I hope the motor mounts aren't gone. The car only has 80k miles on it.
