Default Battery issue?

I recently purchased a 2004 with 17K miles. I tried starting it today and it "clicked". How long will a battery last that doesn't get used much? Thanks, Ed.

If you're not starting it for weeks at a time it'll probably go low charge. Batteries typically last 2-4 years. If you want a battery with good reserve cold cranking amps then a autozone optima or sears diehard platinum are the way to go. If you're going to leave the car for weeks at a time with out starting it I suggest a battery tender to keep the battery from low charge. As for your battery, yeah it sounds like it needs to be charged or it's dead.

If it's a single click, then nothing. Check the cables. If it's a rapid fire clicking, it needs a charge.

You can have the battery tested at a parts house for free I think. Have you tried to jump it yet?

I did not know earlier but it has the small window with a red ball floating which means it is not good. Green is good. I usually do not see this type of battery. I start it on the weekends, but did not last week and this. I will just get a new battery since I believe it is original and do not want to get stranded somewhere. I appreciate all of your quick responses. Ed.
