Default Mods for 2001 Ford Mustang GT

Im getting a 2001 Ford Mustang Gt this weekend. I'm immediately gonna start building the engine up with internals and bolt-ons. I was wondering where to start. My goal is to get to 350 rwhp without adding a supercharger on there yet. Let me know what brands you think works the best. And im very interested in a new cam, i love that lope you get in a mustang, whats the best cam out there without spending too much? Thanks

Have you read the "Where to start with bolt-ons..." post? A good place to start if you haven't yet.

As someone else who has just recently started down this path, by far the best money I've spent so far has been on a tuner and custom tune. It seems like the wisest place to start, if you go with BAMA or Steeda who offer tunes-for-life, so you can get an easy significant improvement right away, and then update your tunes as you add parts.

Also, something I wish I'd known or that someone had told me when I got my 04 GT is to check the gas pedal to see if it's too slack (apparently a common issue with 99-04 Mustangs), and if so to use the gas pedal mod to tighten it up. I spent months feeling vaguely bummed about having to mash the pedal to the floor to get the car to move, and the mod just completely transformed how the car responded.

350 rwhp out of a 2V (non aspirated)? Get ready to spend a lot of money. 1st mods would be gears, exhuast and a hand held tuner.

Follow this golden rule and you may save a lot of money and disappointments. 2V's do not repond well to bolt on's. CAI's, Aftermarket manifolds (unless you're pushing major horses) are a waiste of money. GL

Put 4.10 gears in, it will be a whole different car. I have a set in my 02 GT and even the 315 tires will break loose in the first three gears.

CAI.....my car had one when I bought it. I since switched to the OEM filter set up.......the only thing I lost was intake noise, car is as quick as it was with the CAI.

I'd just settle for some minor go fast mods (gears, tires, exhaust) and learn to drive the car.

You can make it a low 13 second car with nothing more than 260ish HP to the wheels and a driver mod.

Naturally aspirated power in the 2Vs is a pipe dream far too many people fall into without the appropriate funds/real goals.

Wow sounds like you got a great project car on your hands. I can't wait to hear more and see what you'll do to it!

Gas pedal fix is probably the best thing I have done to my car so far, as far as most noticeable seat of the pants feel.
