Default HOW TO: Wire a standard sequential tail harness for '99/'01's

I don't know if I've ever seen a write up on how to do this, if so I apologize. It seemed simple enough.

Step 1. Remove your taillights and harnesses. (If, you've got a set of '99/'01 tails I assume you know how to do this part, so I didn't take pics.) In case you don't, you need to remove the trunk's interior trim to access the (4) nuts that hold each of the taillight housings. Also unlatch the harness at it's coupler under the trim panel. You'll also need to feed the harness out through the hole where a grommet holds it in place.

*Now the the good part*

Step 2. Assemble the "tools" necessary for the rewiring.

Step 3. You'll need a second harness set. I used a set out of my old '96 V6.

And your current harness, Here's my '03 harness already wired with a sequential kit spliced in.

Step 4. Locate the "1st"/most interior light.

It's the one with only (2) wires leading to it.

It has to be this one in particular for three reasons, A) the two wires allow for a ground and the flasher signal without having them turn on as a "running light" when the headlights are turned on. B) it has a (2) lock point lay out just like reverse light and amber cut out. C) It has enough wire to trim and still be long enough to mount successfully into your new housing.

Step 5. Strip back the tape that's covering the wires leading to the light.

Step 6. Snip the wires close to the tape bundle, and remove a small section of the coating on the end of the (2) wires. I had a pic but it corrupted upon upload. I'll see if it will reupload.

Step 7. Remove a small section of the wire coating leading to the "3rd"/outer light.

Step 8. Splice the cut light onto the sections of exposed wires. I recommend initially just wrapping around the open section and securing with electrical tape, once you know it works, go back in a solder the connections and secure with a better tape job.

Here's what my rewired harness looks like once was done.

And here's the "new" tails on my '03, forgive the dirty appearance, the snow here melted off in the last couple days and made a mess of all the streets.

And here's them in action:

Very good. Although I would have soldered my connections or use butt connectors, but I'm funny like that.
