2003 Ford Mustang GT PCM issues
I have a 2003 4.6 GT. The theft light started going irractic so we took it to ford dealership. They diagnosed it and told me the PCM is bad. Weird thing is we bought the car crank and drove fine. We had it towed home due to exhaust. After we took if off flatbed and low and behold would not run. The car had the wrong size battery on It and hood would not close. So I am wondering that would cause it to ground out and go bad. Also we had got snow and rain and wondering if the liquid could have got on it and shorted it out. My floorboard was damp. Please help. Trying to fix myself due to FORD trying to charge me 1500. Just to change out pcm.

I feel like it doesnt work like this due to PATS, one of the more experianced people might chime in on this and correct me... but maybe grabbing a PCM from a junked mustang... you would prolly need a tune to turn off PATS. or if you were lucky enough that the key was left with the junked car.

The PATS type C system used in the '99 to '04 GT incorporates the PATS controller into the instrument cluster; the cluster and PCM are linked by a shared security ID programmed at the factory. If either the cluster or PCM are changed the security ID must be reset. It is mostly only Ford dealers that can do this.
An alternative is as suggested above, disabling the PATS in the tune; however if the PCM is bad that may not accomplish anything.
OP, PM me if you like--I can bench test your PCM to eee if it is bad, and if not force feed it a tune with the PATS disabled, I also have a 2003 PCM with the PATS disabled that I no longer need and will sell at a very reasonable price...
