Default Surging on acceleration

I have a '02 GT 5 speed that is completely stock. During idol and easy acceleration there are no issues. But with medium acceleration and if I happen to be at the edge of being in to high a gear the car surges and bucks. As the rpms come up it clears out. Also does it when I accelerate while in 5th gear. Any ideas on the fix would be appreciated.

Do you have any DTC showing? Have you check your fuel filter?

Don't know about fuel pressure, I don't have a gauge.

Hey,

I'm sorry to hear about the issues you are having with your Stang. I have had this problem in several cars, and it is frustrating to say the least.

As several other have said, it sounds fuel related. It may be the fuel pump that needs to be replaced, it could be a dirty filter, or even a dirty or underperforming injector(s).

It possibly could be ignition related as well. You may want to make sure you battery terminals are not corroded, and there is not a loose connection anywhere. Also, when the coils begin to go they give a similar sensation, so you may want to have them looked at.

If I had to guess it is most likely fuel related, however these things are sometimes hard to pin point. I hope this helps, and if you have any other questions feel free to get back in touch with myself or our customer service team listed below my signature. Good luck!
