Cursing at 70mph with A/C on when I noticed the A/C started to get warm. I looked at my temperature gauge and it realized it was nearing the Red H mark. (Hot)

I pulled to the side of the freeway and exited as fast as possible. Put the car in neutral at 45mph and car shut off (Check engine light and battery light came on). Pulled to the side and parked the car and an unbelievable amount of smoke came out of the engine(I left the hood closed, thinking it would be too hot to touch). After about 10 minutes all the smoke was gone.

Called in triple A (took 90 minutes for them to arrive). The guy sat in my car and turned it on. No check engine light or anything. Car turned on perfectly and idled normally. He drove the car onto the truck trailer and when we arrived to my house, he drove the car into my garage.

I popped the hood and noticed my radiator fluid was empty and there was coolant on top of my intake manifold (green liquid).

I had changed my thermostat at around 70,000 miles and I have changed my intake manifold at 115,000 miles (it cracked). I am now at 148,000 miles. With the amount of information I have provided, could anyone give me an idea of what could have happened?

This happened 3 days after I took my car to a random local shop to get my rear axle seal fixed.

What have you checked on the car?I would assume the thermostat is sticking, and the intake maybe cracked. check at the back on the intake where the heater hose is. check all the hose's. good luck

I haven't had time to thoroughly look, but I did not see a crack on the manifold and the thermostat looked fine. I poured the coolant into the reservoir tank and when I turned the car on, it all just drained out LOL! Does this sound like a bad hose?

Make sure you have completely filled up the radiator. the coolant reservoir will drain into the radiator until the radiator is completely full.Can you visually see the area the coolant is leaking from? is it coming out of the radiator? upper or lower radiator hose?Coolant tank? from the water pump? don't drive the car until you fix the leaks. If , i have missed any thing, other members will also offer more help.

You definatly need to fill the entire cooling system, then let it idle and find see where it is leaking to.

Alright will do. Is it possible to fill it up with just water and check for leaks while idling? Wasted a lot of coolant...

Popped open the hood and think I found the culprit. Clicking on the images will make them bigger.









Heater hose core. It seems like it broke off or something, its really strange.

Would this be a easy fix? If not, would it be costly to get it fixed? I'm sure I can go ahead and just duct tape it but rather go a safer/better route lol.

It's a quick and cheap fix. Most parts stores will carry the connector you need.
Being in LA, you could just by pass the heater core as well.

Hi roush,

How would I be able to bypass it? It seems like the hose is connected to a outlet tube that goes into the engine?


Also, if you could look at the picture. The heater hose and core, I can't tell which is broken or which is missing a clip.

From constant google searches it seems the majority of people who had this issue had a broken inlet hose. The one that connects to the intake manifold.

Mine is the outlet. By looking at it I can't figure out whats missing. A type of clip?
