Default 03 mustang gtcold start noise

Hi all,

Im not really to concerned with this noise as i have a 98gt with 306 thousand miles that made this noise since i bought it with 83k.

I have an 03 gt with 140k miles and every morning at start up or sitting for most of the day there a clacking sound for about a minute or 2 and goes away...

i use 5-w30 in both cars, Im just curious as if anyone knows what this could be?? my 2 cars are the only ones ive heard it in.. obviously it cant be that bad as i put miles on and never had issues with either of them.

thanks fellas

You should be concerned, ask me how I know. I listened to your video, but they are always hard to decipher without hearing the real thing and hearing where the noise is coming from. Things that come to mind are exhaust leak, oil pump going bad, oil pump pickup clogging up, or timing chain set issues. There are always things like bad lifters and loose rockers too. If it was my car, I would look into it.

Probably timing chain tensioners, but the 4.6L/5.4L are known for piston slap when cold. In my experience, the modulars are just noisy bastards.

I get excellent oil pressure, I don't really use any oil. And it always goes away after a minute or so..

Do you have a real oil pressure gauge or are you just using the stock gauge?

Mine does it also and it think just like JC316 .. piston slap when cold and only mods I have are CAI and Bama tune but I try never to get on it until I get some heat in the engine..

I had a 1969 E-Block 440 that would bend push rods if you didn't let it warm up before giving it hell..
