Automatic Transmission shifting problems 1996 mustang gt 4.6l
So the problem is in drive my car wont shift after first gear, but when i go to 3000rpms and let off it will shift eventually. Then when i'm going about 40mph and just hit it, it spins out and revs up. When i go to shift it manually, start in first, then go to second, then drive it works just fine. Took to a couple places for the transmission to get look at but i don't think isn't anything serious, i just don't want to get ripped off.
What could be wrong with it????
Thanks from fellow mustang driver.

Check fluid level,
Make sure its not burnt fluid, IE it should be a nice red color, and not smell burnt.
Replace filter in pan. If its not able to pull fluid through a clogged filter it will slip or take an extreme amount of rpm to build enough pressure to shift.
Any thing after those options and its either in the shift solenoids or the transmission is bad.
Any good mechanic shop should have a Tech2 device capable of reading any codes related to the transmission. They are separate codes from the engine codes. Most scanners from places like autozone are not capable of reading this portion of the computer.
