Default Hydroboost issue or..nah?

As some may know, Im resurecting an 02 saleen s281 sc from the dead. I did brakes yesterday and went to bleed them today......
Open up the bleed screw, pump the brakes to the floor. Pedal sticks to the floor. Wtf! Pop it up with my foot. Press it and it sticks to the floor.
Abort mission to trouble shoot this.
Crawled under the dash..pedal sticks on the floor and pops back up when you pull it a bit. Its acompanied by the sound of what seems like the shaft binding against the edge of sheetmetal (ie:the firewall cutout)
I pulled the master cylinder, grabbed the shaft that goes thru the hydroboost that applies pressure to the master cylinder. The shaft is spring loaded and it binds when you pull it out all the way, then pops back in. So I pulled the hydroboost/power brake booster....:
when I push the actuator rod that attaches to the brake pedal all the way in, it sticks for a second, then pops out aggressivly. This seems to be the problem as even the slightest finger tip pressure keeps it bound and stuck in. Release your finger and it pops back out with force.
Even though the brake pedal has a built in return spring, this sticks enough to hold the pedal on the floor till you pull on it.
Do I dump $200 on a new unit?
This just seems so strange to me.
