Has anyone replaced 275/40 NT555's with 285/40's?

Default Has anyone replaced 275/40 NT555's with 285/40's?

I'm going to have to get new tires this year for my 2002 GT, and I'm looking at getting a little increase in tire height. Right now I've got Nitto 275/40's all the way around. I'm looking to go with Nitto NT555 285/40's in back and 255/45's in front. Has anyone used 285's on stock 17 inch bullitt wheels? Any problems? Any info will be greatly appreciated!

Haven't heard of that one yet. I used to run 275's on my stock wheels, as I'm sure you are aware that size is not a textbook "correct" fit for an 8" rim, if all you're going for is looks then it works fine. Those who know their crap about this would say you sacrifice a little bit of handling ability.... Anyway, although a 275 has a little bit of excess sidewall bulge on that wheel, my best guess is that a 285/40 wouldn't be noticeably more due to having a taller sidewall.

FWIW, my old Bullitt wheels found a home on my '08 Explorer, wrapped in 265/75 Nitto Terra Grapplers. So they have now had at least 2 sets of tires that the guys at Ford didn't envision the wheels to have mounted on them.

z28 pretty much nailed it. 10mm is only about 3/16 on each side. If it makes you feel better im running 295-50-15 on 15x8 wheels on a c10 truck. Its purely a looks thing for me on it though.
