There are 5 comp cam setups. I know the bigger cams have issues with kissing the piston. My question is do I need new Pistons for anything bigger then stage 1 or with the valve springs fix the clearance issues?

you can go to stage 2 and will need new springs and retainers ,go to stage 3 and youll need 2000+ stall + springs and retainers ,anything larger and you need to upgrade computer and all the above

Like tadpole said, Comp 262's and 268's can be used without notches. Comp 270's can work without notches by retarding cam timing but is highly disregarded. Factory 96-04 GT's converters will stall at 2400-2800 rpms, straight from Ford. I always recommend a dyno tune with aftermarket cams, along with upgraded springs.

I have a 5spd so no stall. So the 268 plus springs and retainers? What about the comp adjustable cam gear or can I use the stock cam gears?

i do think stock cam gears will work with it, have herd that you may need to order new bolts for them as the stock ones will not fit after market cams

The bolts will depend on the year car, some gt's had the press on cam gears. In that case you will need cam gears and bolts. As for the timing adjustability, use these:

You don't want the adjustable cam gears, there is a chance they could move with pressure. The adjustable crank timing gears wont move once set.

So with those would I need new cam gear or should I run the stock cam gear and the trick flow adj crank gears? Or do reg cam gears with the adj crank gears?

You should have the Romeo style pi heads which have the bolt on cam gears. You can reuse the factory cam gears on the cams when using the Trickflow adjustable crank timing gears on the crank. This will allow you to adjust your cam timing.
