Just got a 96 GT convertible a few weeks ago. Couple of hours ago we were about to leave the local mall and the car would not start. Electrical system came up and first, but when I turned it to the start position everything went dead. No lights, no gauges, no power anything worked. Tried removing the key and reinserting it a few times to no avail. Pulled some fuses and tried again, still no power at all. I was going to try disconnecting the battery and reattaching it, but everything close by had already closed. When I got back to the car I tried it one last time and everything came up as normal. When we got home, I removed the key, waited 30 seconds or so, and then tried to start it again. Started with no issues. Is this an anti-theft issue, or maybe just something with the cylinder? No theft light showed on the dash.

I'm fairly certain the previous owner changed out the ignition cylinder at some point.
