Default Bogging

Hey so I read up that anything over a 70mm throttle body would bog on my stock 96 automatic mustang gt. I'm upgrading my intake manifold to the replacement one with the aluminum main coolant crossover. But don't have the money to do a full pi swap. I'm also doing a cold air intake. Just curious if I can go with a 75mm throttle body without it bogging. Trying to get the most power out of it while staying in my budget.

the tb will have nothing to do with "bogging" all you are doing is making the air inlet flow slightly better, the heads and intake are still a restriction gains are minimal at best.

So is it worth it to go for the 75mm?

not unless you are running forced induction, or your air intake tubing measures 75mm inside diameter. no matter what anybody says a larger TB alone will not make any noticeable gains. on a my forced induction setup going from a stock to a 70mm gained alot, 70 - 75mm 5hp but its pulling 2-3 times the air, NA you will see no gains in the real world

In theory, a 70mm is all you need on a stock engine. But bigger isn't going to hurt anything. The choke point on our intakes are the plenum outlet. No matter the throttle body size, that outlet is the same size. I had the BBK 78mm throttle body and plenum in one and had no trouble. Just buy what you want and it will be fine.

Seriously tho a TB and plenum are pretty much one of the biggest waste of money on a stock engine. Put your money towards a tuner and gears for power and a catback for sound. Then save your money for heads and cams then you can by the TB and it will be worth the money.

i agree to a point, i was almost gonna spend the 6k or so to upgrade heads and cams but to spend that much to gain less than 100hp and lose low end torque seemed like a waste. so i spent the same money on going FI and gained more power and torque across the power band, all without tearing my engine apart to the short block. FI is where the real power is at dollar for dollar IMO

With heads and cams you could be running 6lbs of boost and be making more then 405hp and with less stress on the engine.

maybe, for double the cost. 2v's can handle 9psi and last as long as a stock engine, i have seen 80k mile plus cars boosted with this setup
