02 gt trying to get started after 5 years
Ok so I'm getting my moms 02 gt vert it has been sitting for about 5 years now. I want to get it running I know it will be some work. The last time I messed with it at my parents it wasn't getting fuel so I'm almost positive the fuel pump is done. Beside that I'm going to drain all fluids then see from there. If you guys have any other advice please help out.

Morning, Larry here.
I'm driving a 02 Saleen 281 SC w/ 5speed. Bought it last year with only 5,000 miles on it. The first thing I noticed was that it wouldn't hook up at all. Broke loose so bad It was scary. It still had the original Pirelli tires that looked new but were dry.
My new Continental extreme contact tires made a huge difference. Highly recommend.
As long as you have to change the fuel pump you might as well go with one of the larger capacity pumps in case you might want to bump up power with some bolt ons at a later date. Some power boost mods require larger injectors and more fuel than you get with the stock fuel pump.

Ya it will need all new tires on all corners. It has a couple of bolt ons already. o/r h pipe magaflow cat back, jlt rai and superchip programmer. Once I get it running im going to look at some other stuff on it before doing to much to bump performance, the top is in bad shape.

Hes right about the fuel pump, get a Ford supercar gt pump or the svt Focus pump. Its only a few dollars difference. Also change the fuel filter while you are in there.
It is a good idea to change all fluids and run a injector cleaner in the fuel. Bleed and flush the brakes too. Check all rubber bushings, fuses and pcm codes.

Pull the fuel pump fuse (it's in the fuse box under the hood on the driver side) just to make sure the pump isn't running. Drain the engine oil and replace the filter. Fill with fresh oil. Remove all the spark plugs and crank the engine over for 15 seconds several times to get oil pressure through the system and pump up any of the lash adjusters that may have bled down over time. Reinstall the spark plugs (replace if they need it), install the fuel pump fuse, and start the engine (obviously take care of any fuel pump issues you have first).

A few more things you may have to do. I recently revived a Pontiac Fiero that had been sitting for 10 years. I had to have fuel tank flushed out and coated inside, most radiator shops offer this service cost me $100.00. I had to send injectors off to be rebuilt, 4 di not flow at all and other 2 only about 50%. Thank you ethanol! Replaced fuel pump and filter and flushed out fuel lines. You will also want to replace spark lugs, do not forget to blow any dirt from around them before removing and use that dab of anti seize when you put new ones in. Good luck with it poast progress and what you have fo do.

Thanks for the help still haven't got it to my house, having some issues with my buddy who was going to trailer it here. But I do have some parts on order. Cant wait to get this thing going again this was my high school car and I parked it when I bought my 2005 gt with the intentions of my mom driving it to not put anymore miles on her car but it just sat.
