Default Straight pipes?

I have a 96 mustang and my question is how loud is it when you straight pipe one? And I'm talking leave the cats on the car. Right now it has chokemasters (flowmasters) under the car and one is rattling like the insides have been busted our, the other is about ready to rust through (only rust on the whole car too) so how loud would it be If I just cut that junk off and welded a piece of pipe in their place to the tips out the back? And I don't need a lesson on back pressure. I have my opinion on that. I just want to know if it'll be awful loud or will it be bearable? I've seen a few videos on YouTube but if their cameras are like mine then I know it dosent do the exhaust justice.

No, I think my question is totally acceptable. If I wanted to know about back pressure I would have asked about that. I wanted to know what it would sound like, not to make it a thread about back pressure like every other thread I've looked like always turns into.

My first mustang when I was 16 had straight pipes. It was a 96 GT and had it done before I bought the car. I personally didn't think it sounded bad. My car also had the cats still in place and only until I got to the higher rpms was it loud. Since the car was a 5 speed though it would back fire when I would let off above 3k or so, which was cool at 16 I guess. I also had a 98 GT after that that was an auto and had the same thing done to it (weird that both cars I bought had them on them) but it was quiet and driving around with the auto that kept the rpms down didn't sound like much. Both of those cars I had before I turned 18 and never had money for a real exhaust so its what I was stuck with.

Thanks! This is the kind of answer I wanted lol, I guess I'll do it. It'll sound better than a rattling muffler until I can get the money up for a new catback system. I'm not crazy about loud, but it also dosent bother me much. Mines a auto so I guess I'll be good. I drive 50 miles round trip everyday at a steady 70 mph, just hope it don't drive me crazy at that rpm.

I don't really remember it being loud on the highway but both cars also had stock gears. I just remember wanting them both to be louder lol When I bought my current car 00 GT I sold the 98 GT auto and the 00 was much louder and at the time it had an h pipe with flowmasters.

One thing that I would NOT do though is eliminate the cats and the mufflers.

Thank you. And no the cats are staying. I'm not trying to make it stupid loud. Just sound better than a rattle.
