Default Boots

Exact same problem. Changed filters, kinda felt like it coulda been the tranny so I changed the torque converter. Decided to change plugs and found a boot that were split. Changed all of them and bingo. Good luck.

If the sputtering happens when the engine is "under a load" meaning your accelerating on the gas in 4th gear on the freeway and you get a sputter it means the coil packs need to be replaced. Remember that there has to be a certain amount of spark (misfires) for the ECM to throw a code. Cylinder #6 had a bad coil but the misfires were not a high enough rate to throw a code.

I loved my New Edge GT and was the most reliable car I have ever owned and over the years there were some quirks that came along the way but most were minor fixes.

Everybody's telling you to like throw Parts at it don't all the parts that they're telling you about are testable. Meaning like the coil pack there's a way with a voltmeter to check the coil pack to make sure it's correct if it's in there right readings you don't need to replace it that simple

I see where you are coming from, but coil packs are essentially what spark plug wires are on older cars and after 130K miles (which was the case on mine) they were starting to have spark delivery issues). They should be replaced after a certain mileage threshold anyway.

I've noticed that everyone is talking about codes which could be a possible reasoning behind the sputtering. I have a 94 5.0 five speed. I did a full tune up. Plugs, wires, distributor cap, rotor, I AC, maf sensor. What I didn't know is that most people like to think the distributor cap is the reasoning behind most sputtering when in fact it is the actual distributor itself. What I also found out is that you can't just go and buy a distributor from the auto parts store because most of them are remanned. You have to pay high dollar to get a good distributor these days. I was doing a motor swap, with a buddy of mine, on 1995 Ford f150. Basically same motor. I took the distributor off of the f150 and put it on my 94 and it worked amazingly. Never had a problem with it. Now because of how long the sputtering was going in my 94 mustang it actually began to melt the fuel injector wiring on the driver's side. That being said I went through patched all the wiring. Installed a factory distributor (not a remanned distributor for $150 at auto parts store) everything works great now.

What ever it is has to be temp related since it acts great when cold but like a sputtering power lose fool once drove for 5 minutes. The coolant sensor can cause all this?

It also has to be something that can go out progressively. The car got worse and worse with the sputtering each time I drove it to work.
try 91 octane my mustang recomends non premium unleaded so i use 91 octane
