The fan is a no go. The car is scheduled to go to a shop Thursday morning. My guess is the controller is bad, the fuse still looks brand new. I am also guessing the fan going out is what triggered all the issues as the intake was likely already cracked, just not splitting open as it is now. Or it is possible the additional heat split it open. I guess my next question would be, can a fan not running cause the car to run erratically once it starts warming up? Would that explain the behavior I explained in my first post when the card started running warmer? I would hate to put a couple hundred dollars more into it to only find the motor is shot.

if the engine started to over heat, it will sometimes put it into cylinder head over temp mode, this pulls timing and will also cause the engine to misfire in an attempt to get you to stop driving, if so there will be a code in the memory to signal this.

2001 GT Cracked intake manifold and loses power-picture-494.jpgHey jwog666,

i'm going to be swapping my 98 non PI with an 05 2V out of s Lincoln, while stripping it down i found a temperature sensor in the left side head and after researching its there to measure the temperature of the aluminum, even if it has lost all its coolant.

anyhow being you seem know about this, my ecu doesn't have this function 1998 i was wondering if i could use the sender for an aftermarket temp gauge

they refer to that as a cylinder head temp sensor, the trouble with useing a sensor to run an aftermarket guage is this, the sensor uses resistance to measure the temp, but not all senders will have the same resistance for the same temp. so in order to run a gauge you would have to know the specific resistance for the specific temps, and match them to a gauge. this would be quite complicated. you would be better off to install a water temp sensor for your AM gauge.

Thanks for the reply, I'm aware that the sender and the gauge need to be matched, if i knew what temperature was present on the head for example if it was in the range of 180 to 200 degrees i would consider using it.

My problem is my car is a 1998 and uses a temperature sender for the gauge which is nothing more than an idiot light and it uses a coolant temperature sender for the PCM for driveability. Not sure where else i can tap into to get engine temp.

I just bought a ford Racing intake right before they raised the price which i have to drill and tap for the coolant temp sensor. I don't want to disconnect the gauge in the cluster but i want a real temperature gauge

auto meter makes this inline adapter for installing a temp gauge, check out their site

Just got her back today. The additional problem turned out to be the water pump, not the radiator fan. Now the next decision is to fix the ABS computer or not. Considering I always turn it off when the roads are slick, not sure if I care to fix it. I just hate seeing the light come on though.

The man speaketh the truth. My daughter did exactly that and seriously overheated which is how I wound up with an InTech 32v in place of my sohc.
It turned out to be a sweet upgrade but it cost me a lot of coin that I really hadn't planned on spending any time soon.
