Default 1998 Mustang GT bogging in 5th gear around 55mph

Just bought a 1998 Mustang GT the trans has brand new synchros and the engine was rebuilt 25k miles ago if that's relevant. Around 55mph it will start making a skipping noise, sounds like a misfire, I haven't had this car more than 24 hours so I don't have much info on it, any suggestions are deeply appreciated, I'll try to provide sufficient info for questions if I can.

If the service history is unknown,I'd start with something easy like a new fuel filter.
You might have a faulty coil system as well.

Alright, I'm picking up a fuel filter as soon as i get out of school, and do you have any recommendations on what to do about a faulty coil system, regarding what the best bang for my buck is?

Someone else will have to hop in for the coil issue,or other possibilities.I don't think that a 98 has individual coils like my 04.
55mph in 5th gear,is fairly low rpms, putting a load on something that reveals as a miss.

New spark plugs did wonders, plug 1 and 8 were absolutely disgusting and the others were moderately crusted up. Thanks for the reply.

I would have thought that the plugs were changed with the rebuild,25k ago.
Anyway, glad to hear that it was a simple fix.Sometimes,we overthink the possibilities.

I'd get 1 and 8 coils tested while you are at it if the plugs looked significantly different.
