Default Exhaust issues?

Yesterday i was doing an exhaust swap and the person i bought the pipes from sold me a midpipe for a 5.0 (or so i would have to infer) and to get the car ready i cut the mufflers off and pulled the back end of the exhaust off. now my question is that since i only have the stock h-pipe with the cats and no way to dump the exhaust is it safe to drive around or will the exhaust heat damage any lines, fuel tank cover, etc? i really like the sound and i would not drive around like this indefinitely but i am not sure when i will be able to get some dumps or a side exit pipe. looking for anyone who's done this 2 cents.
