Default Tr3650 Transmission fluid uncovered

All,

I bought my mustang about 2 weeks ago and I am not going to give the car some new blood. I have searched forum after forum dealer after dealer and here is what I have found:

For a 2004 mustang GT Tr3650 tranny run MERCON V (5). Mercon V is the NEW MERCON III. Mercon III is OLD. DO NOT run synthetic wicked expensive Royal purple or Redline. These are not Ferraris there Fords. They do NOT need that and over time they will ruin the internals. Yes, OVER TIME. It may feel good for 10000 miles but may not be good for the next 20000 miles. People like to say they have had it in the car for 3 years but they never said HOW MANY MILES they did in 3 years.

I am a Mechanical Engineer and I know when GM or Ford tells me to design it a certain way (I design Suspension) its because they have tested it a 1000 times. So, they know that the 505th time it was fine but the 1100th time it ended up blowing up.

I literally have spent hrs looking at people BS stuff and I called 5 dealers and its MERCON V 7.2 PINTS or 3.6 QUARTS. Don't fill it until it comes out. It WONT come OUT with 3.6 quarts. It will make the shifting harder due to more fluid. I swear I would not write this if I didn't feel I needed to help other mustangers out.

Thought it was 3.2qts?

Otherwise I agree with the above regarding trans fluid. Use a quality MercV atf and call it good. Others such as RP I have heard can contribute to premature synchro wear in the 3650's, and with an auto trans I am leary of using additives for fear of diluting the friction modifier qualities which are crucial to the longevity of the transmission.

Mine has 3.2 in it.Motorcraft Mercon V. I wouldn't know about 3.6 spilling out the fill hole,as I poured it into the top of the tranny.

ps: I got to thinking and recalled that shortly after I changed my fluid a few years ago,I went back and added some. Not recalling the initial amount or the new total,I replaced it again today.
I put in about 3.6 -3.7 and when I checked how much came out,it was the same.
Not that it matters, but all service was done with Castrol Mercon V.
The owner's manual indicates 3.7.

Update!

Did the change last night and I called the dealer and they say again 7.2 pints or 3.6 quarts. Either way it wont hurt anything. It does NOT come out the hole with 3.6 quarts. I put Mercon V and it is fine today and they say after 4-500 miles it will even get better.
