So what's the story with Cold Air Intakes
So I am fairly new to Mustangs, is there a true benefit to cold air intakes, I would like to add some hp to my mustang, but would also like to still have money in my wallet at the end of the day.
Yes? No?
Thanks

They don't do a whole lot. Little bit of midrange gains, little bit better throttle response, little extra noise. Don't believe any of the advertising hype. Pick one based on looks and budget - as a middle of the road sort of shopper myself, I would say don't buy the cheapest one nor the most expensive one. Performance or whatever from any one of them to the next is all the same.
If you wanna go super cheap, get a K&N stock drop-in filter, remove the rubber snorkel thing from the side of the airbox and remove the air silencer screen from between the airbox and MAF and you will have accomplished almost everything a $250 cai will do.

depends, it not just adding more air, via cai, then choking it at the throttle body, maf, or plethum, even when you get the air intake part right, and add more air, then fuel injectors, and pumps come into play. depending on what level your building for.
ask yourself what do I want to do? long term? how much you spending? how much hp/trq are you after? find builds that fit what your looking for, and gather parts for that build, there is no cheep one part that is the magic bullet, its a well thought out collection of them.
that said, I like jlt, 4" tubes, dont heat soak, used in many builds, and many dyno sheets out there with this part used.

I went with removing the silencer and using a K&N air filter. Even if you use a paper air filter I would still go with the removed silencer route instead of spending money on a CAI unless you wanted to dress up the engine bay.

That screen is there to smooth air around the maf, if your fuel trims go wacko, try putting it back.
Or adding one on an aftermarket.
I am not running a screen but my fuel trims are pretty stable, running a 90mm lightning maf, and it did not have a screen.
