thumping sound from right side
I am getting a thumping noise from the right side of my 2002 gt. I sounds like a tire is bad, but tire guy says they are fine. My mechanic thinks the whole rear end needs replacing as it is too loose to figure out what the problem is. Since $5k and a week I shop sounds a bit strange to me, here I am. Could it just be a failing wheel assembly? The sound is noticeable at 20 MPH and above, getting worse as speed increases. The thumps gain speed as the car does. It is much worse on sweeping left hand turns. Help!

thumping from the front or rear? Front could be a wheel bearing or control arm bushing/ball joint on that side going out. Rear would be be a wheel bearing most likely.
Feeling any rumble in the steering wheel or the seat of your pants?

Sounds like it is from the rear. Nothing noticeable in the steering wheel or seat of pants. Ummm... does that mean I need two new rear ends? Aaaah! Well at least I have medical insurance. Thanks for your reply. I just switched the tires around and there was no change.
