Default Do i really need a handheld tuner?

I have a 2002 mustang gt with a p1sc procharger. I recently got a new engine, just a regular 4.6 like the stock one except with a lot lower miles. The tune that was on it was a dyno tune. I called my local speed shop and asked about a tune. They said i dont need one and that if i did want one i would need a handheld tuner first. This doesnt sound right. Aren't those tunes two entirely different things?

if the computer in the car is loaded with a custom tune one way or another, simply swapping motors will not warrant a new tune. assuming that tune is a good one that is...

to upgrade the tune to a better one or get someone else to tinker with it you will need to buy a hand held and find a way to return your car back to factory tune... a good shop should be able to do that for you
