its almost like the shifter is leaning into a position in the gear box (1st,2nd,3rd etc.) anybody know what it could be?

The first and reverse thing is "normal" for the transmission, there's a service bulletin on it.

Could be that your throwout bearing is worn out already. When coming up to a stop sign/light do you just let off the gas and press the clutch in when the RPMs get low, just press and hold the clutch in, or shift it to neutral?

If you've been holding the clutch in you've been killing your throwout bearing.
