97 gt to 98 gt power comparison
I know its not that big of a deal, but i'm kind of curious about this. Does any one know what makes the 10hp difference on the 98gt vs. the 97 and eariler gt 4.6's???? Is there a difference in the timing or fuel map, makes the power difference???

Go with a '98. Many subtle differences over the '97's. More power from aggressive tune and redesigned exhaust system. Also the big auto tranny change in '98 to that used through most of the newer years after that. One tranny specialist (worked with FMC on transmissions) said the '98+ autos are bullet proof while older models were subject to much wear if downshifted and upshifted manually all the time. One other thing, Consumers Report claims the '98 is the most trouble-free year in the last ten, not including '04 & '05. Way more comfortable seats than the years after '98 too. BUT, if power is your only concern, don't forget the '99's jumped up to 260+ HP stock. Might be a consideration if you have the bucks.

interesting. acer's 98 auto tranny is starting to act screwy, and it only has 60k miles on it. also, it's more of a pain to get parts for 98s. most sites have stuff for 96-97 and 99-04. i say get a 97 with low miles if you can or just get a 99.
