Default Antifreeze/Coolant

I just bought Prestone Dex-Cool 50/50 antifreeze/coolant for my stang. It says its compatible with newer ford and chrysler vehicles but when i left (i know the guy from autozone) the guy emailed me and said i got the wrong antifreeze/coolant because i have aluminoum heads. IS THIS TRUE, OR IS THIS KID WRONG? I know we need special antifreeze/coolant for our cars but i thought this was right?

thanks

this is the one i got

Does it specifically say 'Safe for aluminum' or 'not recommended for use with aluminum'? When in doubt, check with the dealer.

it says: "is recommended and formulated for use in all GM vehicles that require DEX-COOL coolant, as well as other cars and light duty trucks with aluminum radiators"

Ohhh okay, I thought Dex-cool sounded familiar...don't use it in your car. GM has a funky requirement and that type of coolant is actually a GM trademark.

http://www.pennzoil.com/products/ancillary/dexcool.html - info on trademark.

Here's a technical data sheet for it too....

I just use standard Ethylene (SP?) Glycol Based 50/50 antifreeze. (Green). As long as the color matches and the base is the same you're safe. I don't know of many cars that use the Orange stuff. Manual should tell you but if it's 99-04 Prestone 50/50 green works fine.

Alot of of cars use the dex-cool (orange coolant) But mostly newer cars..your mustang should use dex-cool just look on the fill cap for the coolant, it should say this car takes extended life coolant or something along that line. And if theres orange of ur fill cap..that means its dex-cool.

Extended life and Dex cool are not mutually inclusive...did you read the spec sheet I posted?

http://www.valvoline.com/products/Ze...arge%20618.pdf

It meets dex cool standards but is not dex cool.

A car can recommend extended life antifreeze but unless it states Dex cool in the manual, I wouldn't use Dex cool in my car. There are other extended life alternatives out ther are green, not orange. Dex cool is Dex cool.
