Check Engine Light

Check Engine Light
My check engine light has started coming on and off. Initially after starting the car the light is off the goes on. Stays on for a few minutes, goes off, comes back on, etc… It does not seem to affect the way the engine runs, in fact, the car sounds and runs great.
I have an OBD code reader (Autolite) which reported errors in the past, like when I removed my midpipe prior to installing my MILs. I also have an XTC Xcal 2. Anyway neither of these devices pulled any codes…
I put the original program back on the car. The problem persisted. I have even tried to pull the codes or read the “MIL Status” (on the Autolite) while driving and when the light was on… nothing, no codes “Pass”
Any ideas?
I’m going to try unhooking the battery overnight. Maybe the computer just needs to be totally reset?
The STC also supports data-logging via notebook computer, so I suppose that might help diagnose the issue. I’ll try that next…

RE: Check Engine Light
You say it comes on and goes off again without throwing codes. And you have mil eliminators.
I'm not an expert, but it sounds like an old fashioned shorted wire to me. Maybe in a mil eliminator? I'm not sure if that would cause the light to come on without a code. It could be a short in the wiring to the mil light itself. I'd recheck your electrical connections and make sure none of the wiring is pinched.
I'm not sure I've helped, but good luck in tracking the problem.
