Default MGW short throw shifter

I just recieved my MGW shifter in the mail for my 04 mustang GT. The directions advise not to use the bump stops that are provided with the transmission that is in my car. THe shifter also came with both a gasket and the permatex gasket tube but the directions only mention the permatex and not the gasket. Just wondering what other people have done when installing this shifter and if there is anything I should know before I tear into it. Thanks.

Just follow the instructions and change the tranny oil if it's time is coming up.

Use the gasket instead of the Permatex. That's why they make them. It's much easier and less messy also. Mine is using the gasket and it is very quiet.

actually, belive it or not, they can hurt your tranny pretty bad if there set up wrong. I'm not familiar with the tranny for the 04 but If your instructions say not to use them, then i highly recomend you don't, unless your very expirienced with them. Your tranny may have built in stops. The reason why they can damage your tranny is because if the stops are set too far out (or maybe "in" depending on how you think about it) they can limit the gear from going in completly which can cause them to pop out while driving, or if there not fully engaged it can cause damage.

I have a MGW short shifter, the Tremec 3650 has built in stops. Meaning you can slam the shifter hard into each gear and you ont over extend the shifter fork and break it. You could use the stops on the shifter, but you have to set them up properly if you dont like someone said before you will cause damage. But this only applys to the tremec 3650, to my knowledge. Simply just dont use the stops if you have this tansmission and you will have nothing to worry about. I never recieved a gasket. I would deffinitly use it if I got it. The RTV sealant is messy and can ooze out into the transmission if you use to much. Have fun you will love it, its like night a day between that and your stock shifter.
