5.0 vs 4.6

5.0 vs 4.6
I'd like to put my two cents worth in. From a Physics perspective, a long stroke small bore combo would generate more torque and a short stroke large bore combo would gererate more horsepower. Let me explain, watch two people of different heights running. The short persons legs at a givenspeed will strike the ground more frequently than the tall person yet the tall person can stay abreast of the short person why? Because the tall person is generating more force(torque) with each strike. Torque is expressed as force times a torque arm(Rod). Make the arm longer and you generate more torque, even with a given amount of force. Now horsepower is a little different. Horsepower doesn't really exist, it is force/time. Therefore it is a ratio, not a principle unit. And since it is divided by time, by cutting time we can really increase power. Ashorter rod has a shorter period(amount of time it takes to get around at a given amount offorce). So for yourself, take a string with a weight around it andswing it over your head. Now while trying to swing it just as hard, grab the string in the middle. Thestring will spin alot faster. Sincehorsepower in an engine is really a measure of an engines ability to gain RPM, a shorter rod(string) will enable it to spinfaster. This is all purely theoretical. You can generally get any engine to spin any RPM if you can get enough fuel and air in there. If you couldn'tpeople would never have thrown rods past there redline. Modern engines justhave better computer controled rev limiters.
