RE: 2003 GT transmission prob
The grind you hear on your transmission is typical of the 01 and a half and up GT's. The TR650 transmission has a design flaw that causes it and you are among many. including myself who have had this problem. It might be fluid level, but Tremec doesn't know yet. Just make sure you document the problem with your dealer. Try to work with the dealer, but for the record, it's not a problem for AAMCO to work on the car as long as they do it right. It would be illegal for Ford to void your warranty over that because that would be anticompetitive activity likely prohibited by law.

Same problem here andrew. 2003 Mustang GT. At about 3500 miles the shifting from 2nd to 3rd isnt smooth. It will grind if you dont baby it in. It usually goes away when the engine is warm, and a little of that is to be expected when the engine is cold, but in general, my gears do the same thing. I brought my car into the dealership and they couldnt find anything wrong with it.
I think I need to bring mine back as well.

Hey, Im new to this forum. I just bought my first Mustang. A 2003 GT convertible w/5000 Miles. I've noticed when driving it, even babying it, it grinds in 2nd gear and sometimes in 3rd. I took it to the dealership and they couldn't diagnose it, but finally on a test drive with the tech., we got it to grind in 4th. He thought it could be the trans fluid?!?! I wasn't convinced, but it is going in on thursday the 15th to have the fluid changed. My real question was, has anyone on here had any problems similar to this? It blows my mind that a car with 5000 miles on it can have transmission problems. Any response would be greatly appreciated. Thanks,

It seems like Ford's usual deal on odd problems like this is... they can't figure out what's wrong and just replace the whole thing with brand new parts. The way warantees work for the dealer is that they charge Ford Motor Company for the parts & labor. So, it's not a big decision for them to just say "replace the damn thing."

Oh, and I meant to add... I have a 2003 GT, and I don't have grinding per se. The one thing I've noticed ever since I got it, though, is when I shift into second it doesn't just drop in smoothly. Instead, it's almost like I can feel 2 stages to the shift.. like some pressure at first, then it snaps in. None of my other gears are like this. Maybe a worn synchro?
