doin a water pump, any suggestions?
Ok y'all I have a 1997 mustang GT 5 speed, and every day I hear the water pump squeal louder and longer on startup. So I bought a new pump with a lifetime warranty and a new belt and some coolant.
It looks straightforward (I've done water pumps before)
Crack loose 4 bolts on pulley, then remove belt... take off pulley...
It looks like there are I want to say 5 or so bolts holding the pump into the block? Having drained the coolant it looks like it just pops out...
and then installation would be a reverse of these. Doesn't seem that bad. Doin it this saturday, anyone have any pointers or weird things they've run into? My parents have had pumps do this and they just leave it and later on the pump locks up, blows the bearing and the belt and it needs to be towed, don't want that!
Have a great one all

RE: doin a water pump, any suggestions?
just looked at the haynes repair manual. says there are 4 bolts that hold in on. once bolts are removed says to knock loose with a rubber hammer. it doesn't have a regular gasket, but has an o- ring. replace. says to rub some fresh coolant on new o- ring seal. check mounting surfaces for any crud build up. replace bolts, you know the rest. hope this helps ya.

yep... when I bought the new one I noticed the O ring. this seems to be one of the most straight forward water pumps ever. Just wondering if anyone ran into anything goofy...
I hope this squeaky pump holds up until saturday! I don't have time to work on it until then.
have a good one
