Default what oil is good to breakin a new motor?

Well i am now comming to the end of my 5.4 build. i would like to know what oil would be good to breakin a new motor. The all im waiting on now is the last of the parts that i ordered from ford and the local dyno shop to get there Diablo chip burning set up, im going to get a flip chip so i can run 87 ocrane or 91. ill make a post when i swap the motor in.

Code3GT what oil did you use on you new motor?

you really cant go wrong with royal purple, its expensive stuff, but its definately one of the best oils out there. if you dont want to spend the cash i wouldnt put anything in it besides synthetic, mobil 1 makes a pretty good synthetic

ermmm.. an organic/synthetic blend for the first like 1000 miles or something. just like it comes from the factory.

i use motorcraft 5w20 synethetic now. ford recommended (obviously) for my engine and is a lot cheaper than mobil1 and royal purple.

DO NOT run a full synthetic until you have broken in the engine ~approx 7k miles. You have to give the new rings time to seat properly. I'm with nanaki, run the motorcraft premium blend for the first 1 or so thousand, drain and refill with the same blend for the next 3k and the same again for the following 3k. Change the filter all the times too. Baby it for the first 4k, meaning nothing over 4k rpms. After 7k, run a full synthetic, (I like Vavoline SynPower).

You don't want any form of synthetic. I used plain old generic CarQuest 5w-30. I changed it after running the engines for the initial 15 minutes, again at 500 miles and again at another 500 miles. After that I use Mobil 1 5w-30synthetic.

well the problem is that after i put my 5.4 in it will be running off the 4.6 PMC which will try and feed fule to a 4.6 not a 5.4. and i have talked to people that has done the swap over some forms and they said that the A/F raito was way up at 18:1 which is really lean. so i have to get a dyno tune, right after i swap the new motor in so its either run the 5.4 for a while at 18:1 and rich melting a piston or what ever... or go and beat on it the first day for a few hours probably 2 or 3 depending on how long it takes. whould that be ok then just baby it for like 500 miles? so just use organic oils? no synthic blends? i know that you cant use full synthetic because of the seals. i am probably going to go and get the oil later today so on my 4.6 i have been running Quaker Stake 5W30 Peak Performance. should i just use the same stuff? and chang the oil the first 50 miles(to break it in) then 500 miles then 500 again then can i go up to 3000?
