Fuel pump or ignition problems?

Fuel pump or ignition problems?
Hello Group,
This is my first posting here.
Our 1996 GT refuses to stay running. After the pump charges the lines, it fires up immediatly, but then dies in about 2 seconds. It seems to me that the pump is running only in the START position.
After returning the key to the OFF position, and then back to RUN, I can hear the pump recharging the lines again. This car has been in cold storage, for the last month. But up until this moment, we've never had any problems like this.
Do you think it is an ignition switch problem? Should I try bridging over the switch, for diagnostic purposes. Can the fuel pump cut-off switch turn itself off - for no reason?
Thanks for any guidelines.
Ron N.

The fuel filter is at the rear of the car in the line coming from the tank. You will need a spring lock tool to remove it. You just put the tool around the line and push it into the fitting then pull it apart. Here is a pic of the tool.
