What size turbo would be good for a 5.4? i only want a single turbo. what cars/ trucks wpuld i pull a used turbo off of and it be the right size? could a Diesel turbo be used on a gas engine?

turbonetics t88. Lol j/k thats a huge turbo. Dunno if you read mm&ff but on the cover of the january issue the yellow 94 gt (fully built) was running a t76 i believe and putting out 800 rwhp and was completely streetable. A/C and everything. OF course thats very very very expensive. Also his was a 5.0 not a 5.4. Go with a twin turbo kit if you can. Better low end resonse. WOO WOO

thats what the 5.4 is for, it will give me alot of low end. so to help the top end i am in the planning phase of a single turbo DIY. so i would like to know what turbo i could get at a junk yard or what ever for cheap. and i only want a single because it will be DIY and i dont really want to plan for twins. i think a single will be hard enough, lol.

A 76 mm turbo from hellion would probably suffice.

I hope your going to be making suspension/drivetrain upgrades also, because you are going to be making some massive power if you get the boost in the teens.

Well I'm sure a turbo from a diesel would work with a gas motor b/c it just uses the exhaust gases anyways. However, it might end up being more expensive b/c everything else you get will have to be custom fabbed. All of the piping and stuff will have to be cut and setup specifically for your application. I don't see this being a total DIY project. Good luck bro! Keep us updated!

so what car can i pull a used turbo off and it be large enough for my 5.4?

you have several options. the Holeset HX35 turbo off the 5.9L dodge cummins use a T3 exhaust flange so itll be the easiest to mount to a set of headers. also you can get this turbo for around $200 used. it would be a good size for you.
