Default Emissions Testing

Does anyone know the real skinny on the new emissions testing in Illinois? I'm sure some other states are doing the same. Basically up until Jan 04, if you had a 96 or newer vehicle, they would run an OBD test. They would hook up to your diagnostic port and then read out:

1) The emissions MIL command - On or Off 2) Which, if any, fault codes are stored 3) Readiness monitor status.

If you failed this OBD test, they would do a regular old fashioned emissions test.

Now, if you fail the ODB test, you fail and have to fix the problem.

What I'm looking for is if I'm running a non-cat exhaust and MIL eliminator setup, what you do think is best to do prior to emissions testing? (I currently don't have this setup, but I'm curious).

I'm guessing that I should switch back to stock exhaust a few days before testing, clear the codes if any by disconnecting the battery, then drive around stock for a few days to reset the readiness monitor status(s). Or will the MIL eliminators take care of the OBD? I don't think Illinois does a visual, so I wouldn't be worried about that.

Default Emissions Testing

I just had mine done in October. '96 and newer, all they do is check the Gas cap for leaks, and plug the OBDII scanner into the car. I checked mine before I went in, and didn't have any codes and passed. A friend of mine had his SES light on, borrowed my scanner, and cleared the codes while he was waiting in line. He shut the light off, and passed.
