Hey guys,

Just joined this forum. I post over at automotiveforums.com alot under the mustang part of that section. Just figured I'll tell you all what I got and I got one question to ask. I'm 17 years old I live in Arizona. I own a Pacific Green 96 Mustang GT, not to bad for a 17 year old who pays for the car by working at Mcdonalds

My GT is bone stock which I am hoping to change this weekend. Alot of people say get rear gears for your first mod. Do you all agree or do you have a different suggestion for me. Also if you agree that I should get rear gears do you think I should get 3.73 or 4.10. This car is my daily driver so I want the driving to still be comfortable.

Welcome to Mustang ownership and good for you. There are alot of experts on this forum that will give you tons of good advice. My thoughts are that gears are an expensive first mod for a McDonalds budget, they cost about $125 for ring and pinion another $90 for the install kit anf 5-6 hours labor @ $50 hour give or take unless you have a good local competent mechanic. So thats $500-$600- I would start with exhaust- cat back $300, x or h pipe $250, headers $350, then intake, MAF, TB, CAI, then go pulleys, and eventually a PI head swap, you also will want to save for a steeda or pro 5.0 shifter if manual and go 4:10 unless you plan on nitrous or supercharger in your future.

Thanks for the reply. As far as the gears go I can get the gears for $170 and I can get them installed for $200. So it would cost me $370 all together for the gears and the install. Do you think I should go gears first since I can get it this cheap or do you still think I should not do this?

Yeah, if you can do for $370 I would go 4:10 right away- your stang will really perk up- it will feel like 50RWHP! That is what you would spen on a really nice cat back system the only thing is your car will still be quiet and the cat back would sound a lot better, but those would be no 1 and no 2 mods in my book.
