Default RE: 3:55 gears vs 3:73 vs 4:10? please help

One other theing to consider is that if you have an automatic and go to 4:10 or 4:30, the tailshaft is going to be spinning like crazy and you really should do an oiler mod to it so it gets proper lubrication.
Just a thought.

Default RE: 3:55 gears vs 3:73 vs 4:10? please help

ive kind of questioned gears myself because out of the 30k miles ive put on my 03 GT 25k are on the 500mile drive to where im from... if i go 70 i can get 28mpg all day (29.5 once) but if i go to 75 i get about 26 and if i go to 80 (ive never set cruise there but as my average goes up) i get about 23-24...

now... you can say the "load" from the wind and friction comes with speed not RPM... but your engine and transmission do have a certian amount of friction... so if you go from say 2000rpm (3.27s) to 2508 (4.10) you are adding 25% more "friction losses" because of the motor... now that might only cost you 1 or 2 mpg but after 50,000 miles your really putting 62500 worth on your motor (if that makes sense)

i drive 80 miles a day to work no difference with 4.10s vs. stock ( I hammer it all the time and average 18 miles per gallon). The reason you do not lose much is you really never have to downshift in 4th for power. Only downside with 4.10s is 4 th gear maxs out like 100-108 if you redline it.

I'm glad this topic came about.

What do people only talk about 3.73 and 4.10s and never any 3.90s? are those any good?
